Welcome to my Studio – I hope you enjoy your visit!
These are the same sharks from my last post, but here they're swimming through a hidden reef ????
I love seeing my paintings become your paintings! So many of my creatures are now a part of you, so feel free to send me your photos! This is the lovely @kanani_kaulukukui, for whom the sharks represent her 3 Keiki (children). A beautifully created tattoo by Aaron from @808tattoohawaii
I visited the beautiful Grey Nurse Sharks of the @aquariumofwesternaustralia at feeding time, swipe right for the video of these graceful creatures. They were the first protected shark in the world, by Australia in 1984. My painting is inspired by the Grey Nurses, you can see my process video a few posts back. My fossilized shark teeth collection is growing....
@shauncytan is my creative hero, and I was in author illustrator heaven for the 2 days of the Celebrate Reading Conference presented by @the_literature_centre. Shaun generously shared insights and processes behind his award winning (even an Oscar!) creations. He graciously took time to chat, decipher a code on the back of one of his paintings and sketch, and sign my mountain of books. I was so inspired I went home to finish a piece started 3 yrs ago. Video next post. ????
I found some video footage of a painting from a couple of years back - a spotted eagle ray. I created the spots with a resist using a Chinagraph pencil, but you could also use a white wax crayon or even a candle. The colour is a natural gemstone watercolor paint called Sodalite, by @danielsmithartistsmaterials ?? ?? Global warming by @kai_engel
Happy Halloween, especially to lovers of all things batty! ???? This was a pastel piece I painted a while ago of little Coco, a rescued flying fox wrapped up in her blankies. When I lived in the Wet Tropics, we had Spectacled Flying Foxes in our garden, happily nibbling on our mangoes and palm trees every night. Swipe right for some of my photos of these gorgeous guys! ????
